    Ridgefielder Ray DiPaola is the author of 42 Places in Southern Vermont: A Snowshoer's Guide, published in 2011. The book highlights 42 snowshoeing trips, mostly simpler trips, from in-town parks to flood control dam projects. DiPaola has been skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking in Vermont’s Green Mountains for over 40 years. He is also experienced in winter hiking in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

    Peraino was a journalist at Newsweek from 1999 to 2010, first as a foreign correspondent and then Middle East bureau chief, based in Jerusalem. He also covered the 2004 election for the magazine; his team won a National Magazine Award for their coverage. His work has appeared in many publications, including Foreign Policy and The Wall Street Journal. Peraino has also appeared as a guest on many TV news programs. Additionally, he is a term member at the Council on Foreign Relations and a visiting scholar at NYU’s International Relations department.
    Peraino was raised in Ridgefield, graduating from Ridgefield High School in 1994. He said he remembered the town “as an ‘open-minded, outward looking, cosmopolitan place’ that piqued his interest in the wider world” (as reported in the Ridgefield Press in 2013, link below). Peraino graduated from Northwestern University. He is married to CBS News correspondent Reena Ninan.

    Veteran foreign correspondent turned historian Kevin Peraino is the author of Lincoln in the World: The Making of a Statesman and the Dawn of American Power, published in 2013. The book is an exploration of Lincoln’s foreign policy prowess. His second book, A Force So Swift: Mao, Truman, and the Birth of Modern China, 1949, is due out in September 2017. In it, he explores the Truman administration's response to the rise of Communist forces in China under Mao Zedong.
