Shel Secunda’s photographic career began when, after serving in the military, he joined a firm publicizing Broadway shows and doing publicity photos for Music Man, The Miracle Worker, Look Home in Anger, and other plays. He then became an advertising photographer for such agencies as J. Walter Thompson and Young & Rubicam. His photographs of notables, including Laurence Olivier, Julie Andrews and Meryl Streep, have appeared in such magazines as Ladies Home Journal, New York, TV Guide and Life. Five books of his photographs have been published, including The Bond: People and Their Animals, with Morley Safer, Carol Burnett, Jane Alexander and Mary Tyler Moore among its subjects. In recent years, Secunda has devoted most of his time to art photography. These and other photographs have been exhibited in galleries throughout New England. He lives with his wife, author and journalist Victoria Secunda, in Danbury.
