Ridgefield resident Robert MacArthur has been in the short-selling business since 1994. As part of his research into flawed and failing businesses, he extensively researched the for-profit education sector. The results of his research became the basis for the book Online Education Fraud: The Diary of a Short Seller. The book exposes an industry riddled with fraud and documents the fall of share prices of companies in the industry.

MacArthur is the founder and CEO of Ridgefield-based Alternative Research Services, a registered investment advisory firm that specializes in investigative fraud research and short-worthy stocks.
