Winifred Carriere’s father, Richard Osborn, founded the coal and lumber company, which now is Ridgefield Supply. After graduating from Syracuse, she moved to New York where she worked as an editor at Prentice Hall and McGraw-Hill. For many years she published and edited Professional Florist Magazine. She was the author of Cats, 24 Hours a Day and, with co-author Vernon Johnstone, An Easy Guide to Artificial Light Gardening for Pleasure and Profit.
