Brewster’s career began at American Heritage magazine, and he later was a writer and editor at Life Magazine. He then joined ABC and, in addition to other assignments, became Washington Bureau Chief during the Gulf War. He was senior editorial producer of The Century, and, with Peter Jennings, Brewster co-authored The Century for Young People and In Search of America, both best-sellers. Brewster directed the 27-hour series, The Century, which appeared on both ABC and the History Channel; was nominated for two Emmys; and won the Overseas Press Club Edward R. Murrow Award for best documentary. The book of that title, a companion to the series, was on The New York Times best-seller list for 45 weeks and has sold over 1.5 million copies. Currently he is the Director of Oral History at West Point. Brewster has written for Time, Vanity Fair, and The New Republic. He is a contributing writer to Ridgefield Magazine.
